Weekly Wine Review - Sonoma Zinfandel - 2011 Carlisle Zinfandel Saitone Ranch

I have been on the Carlisle waiting list for sometime, and finally scored some Syrah, Zin, and a red Rhone blend. A little young and I need to keep the bottles for a while, but I couldn't resist cracking open at least one - so let's Zin!

Wine: 2011 Carlisle Zinfandel Saitone Ranch
Region: Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California
Grape Varieties: Zinfandel (Red!)
Obtained from: Purchased from Winery
Price: $39.00
Wino4Life Category: Weekend Wine
Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.

Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.
Appearance: Wine is clear, dark purple at the core/center with a pinkish rim.
Aroma: Lots of great dark fruit, licorice, spice, a bit of smokiness, and maybe some cola. Definitely a lot going on - awesome!
Taste: Still a bit young and tannic, but very delicious - lots and lots of great fruit, and nicely balanced with nice acidity. A great finish...very tasty.

The Grade: I give this one an A.  With the potential to be an A+ with some time in the old wine fridge.  This Carlisle Zin was worth the wait!  I need to be patient and not break out the others before they've had a chance to age...wish me luck!
