During a wonderful long weekend in Napa, we stopped off at the Oxbow Market (a wonderful collection of food shops and restaurants in downtown Napa) and I found a great Wine & Cheese shop. Yes we needed some wine even though we were hitting 9 or 10 wineries as most of the wine we bought was getting shipped home. This bottle was recommended by the wonderful person manning the wine section - big and bold was the promise and that sounded great to me!
Wine: 2010 Wrath Syrah KW Ranch
Region: Santa Lucia Highlands, California
Grape Varieties: Syrah
Obtained from: Purchased at Oxbow Market, Napa, California
Price: $39
Wino4Life Category: Weekend Wine
Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.
Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.
Appearance: Clear, dark dark purple with a pink rim.
Aroma: Intense! Blackberry, spices, licorice, a hint of herbs.
Taste: Intense again. Big fruit, nicely balanced. Smooth tannins and a great level of acidity.
The Grade: I give this one an A. A really nice big fruit bomb. I think wines always taste better in Napa (which can be dangerous if you aren't a careful shopper) - but I believe this one would taste good anywhere. We enjoyed it with some acidic goat cheese, and some gouda with black truffles... excellent!
