Weekly Wine Review - Spanish Red Blend - 2008 Altavins Viticoltors Terra Alta Domus Pensi

Spanish wine...check.  Garnacha (Spanish for Grenache)...check. A grape in the blend I'm not familiar with (Samsó, which I later discovered is Carignan)...check.  A name (the Domus Pensi part) that reminds me that Games of Thrones new season is next month...check. More than enough reasons to give this wine a try!

Wine: 2008 Altavins Viticoltors Terra Alta Domus Pensi
Region: Terra Alta, Catalunya, Spain
Grape Varieties: Garnacha (Grenache), Cabernet Sauvignon, Samsó, Merlot

Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.
Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.

Appearance: Clear, dark red with a pink rim.
Aroma: Black cherry, spices, bit of a smoky character.
Taste: Nicely balanced, a good amount of acidity, a very pleasant - fruit driven finish.

The Grade: I give this one an A.  An great wine for under $20...check!  A very nice blend, with enough fruit to just enjoy, and enough acidity to pair with food... I recommend some great Spanish cheeses.  Cheers!
