Weekly Wine Review - Central California Red - 2010 Zaca Mesa Syrah

We have not visited Central California for a wine vacation in some time... I need to fix that!  Not as good as a visit to the land of the movie Sideways, but a bottle of Zaca Mesa might hold us over until we make it back.  Memorial day maybe?  A long weekend of wine tasting sounds very doable!
Wine: 2010 Zaca Mesa Syrah
Region: Santa Ynez Valley, California
Grape Varieties: Syrah with a bit of Viognier

Obtained from: Purchased at K&L Wines, Hollywood, California
Price: $14
Wino4Life Category: Everyday Wine

Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.
Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.

Appearance: Clear, beautiful dark purple with a pink rim.
Aroma: Super ripe - stewed dark fruit, sage with chocolate and a bit of vanilla in the back ground. I did not get any floral attributes from the Viognier, but it would be tough to compete with the big red fruit aromas.
Taste: Big and fruity, very delicious and well balanced.  A nice level of acidity, this would be a great wine to go with some springtime BBQ.

The Grade: I give this one an A.  For less that $15, this wine is a knockout. If you like 'em big and fruity, give this one a try!
