Weekly Wine Review - Spanish Red - 2005 Señor de Lesmos Rioja Gran Reserva

A Gran Reserva Rioja for only $30... is it too good to be true? Only one way to find out... let's drink!
Wine: 2005 Señor de Lesmos Rioja Gran Reserva
Region: Rioja, Spain
Grape Varieties: Tempranillo with a bit of Mazuelo

Obtained from: Purchased at K&L Wines, Hollywood, California
Price: $30
Wino4Life Category: Weekend Wine

Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.
Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.

Appearance: Wine is clear, dark red and showing some yellowing on the rim from aging.
Aroma: Lots of red fruit, spice and something a bit herbal.

Taste: Nicely balanced, great level of acidity, and a nice long finish. Fruity, but a complexity of flavor from aging.
The Grade: I give this one an A.  Look for wines like these that provide great value - a Gran Reserva for not much more than a Crianza. The complexity added by aging provide a very interesting wine, and one that will pair nicely with many types of food. Want to try red wine with fish? Try this one!
