Weekly Wine Review - California Red Blend - 2013 Chronic Cellars Sofa King Bueno

While shopping at Costco for 1,000 roll packs of toilet paper and 50 pound bags of Brussels Sprouts, I happened by the wine aisle (no accident there) and saw this wine - Chronic Cellars Sofa King Bueno (say it out loud if you don't get it immediately).  Oh yeah, no matter what I'm getting this wine.  Hmmm.... from Paso Robles - that's pretty cool.   A blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre... that's also pretty cool. Let's drink!

Wine: 2013 Chronic Cellars Sofa King Bueno
Region: Paso Robles, California
Grape Varieties: Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre

Obtained from: Purchased at Costco
Price: $15
Wino4Life Category:Everyday Wine

Aeration before tasting: Just a swirl or two, no special aeration.

Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.
Appearance: Clear, deep dark purple with a red rim.
Aroma: Lots of red fruit, dark chocolate, a little floral.

Taste: Lots of fruit as expected, nicely balanced. Not overly complex but very delicious - nicely blended.

The Grade: I give this one a B+.  I don't recommend picking a wine just for the Winery or Wine name (or excellent artwork on the label). But I did it and I'm glad I did.  There is no reason this wine had to be this good. A great everyday wine that's also a conversation piece.  We're on our way to Paso in October (for the 21st anniversary of my 29th Birthday), so I'll be venturing across the street from Peachy Canyon to check out Chronic Cellars... can't wait!

  1. This is one of my all time favorite wines! I hope they are going to carry it nation wide at Costco, because we cannot get it locally in Virginia!!
