Today, let's try a taste of Daou's 2013 Reserve Zinfandel. If we close our eyes, we can pretend we are there right now... happy and sipping! Confession... I meant to grab the 2012, but accidentally grabbed the 2013 which I just received from my wine club shipment.... damn!!!
Wine: 2013 Daou Reserve Zinfandel
Obtained from: Purchased at Winery
Price: $48
Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.
Appearance: Clear, dark purple.
Appearance: Clear, dark purple.
Aroma: Dark fruit, red fruit, and baking spices.
Taste: A good amount of fruit, not as tannic as I expected from such a young wine..., but definitely full bodied with a reasonably long, pleasant finish.
The Grade: I give this one a B. I can't wait to try this one again in a couple of years to see how it develops. With 2013 being a drought year, low grape yields led to a fairly concentrated wine, which may develop additional complexity with time. Stay tuned here in a couple of years... we'll try another bottle and see! Cheers!
Hello Wino4Life,
ReplyDeleteAbout to open a bottle of 2013 Reserve Zinfandel for Valentine’s Day 2019 dinner with a nice thick cut boneless ribeye steak. Can barely wait after reading your review!
We are Daou members also and selected this bottle as it keeps my verticals intact.
