Weekly Wine Review - Napa Red - 2011 B Cellars Beckstoffer Dr Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

We found ourselves about to try a new recipe for a less starchy side dish - broccoli tots!  What better way to welcome this new recipe to the family than with a beautiful New York strip steak and a big ole' Napa Cab!

Wine: 2011 B Cellars Beckstoffer Dr Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Napa Valley
Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon

Obtained from: Purchased from Winery
Price: $165
Wino4Life Category: Super OMG Wine

Aeration before tasting: Decanted for about 6 hours to provide some aeration.

Cork Condition: Natural cork - no defects or issues.
Appearance: Clear, dark red.
Aroma: Dark fruit, herbs and cigar box cedar - fairly restrained.

Taste: Nicely balance, paired well with our meal. Less tannic than I would have thought from a Napa Cab. Tasty, but not was very complex.

The Grade: I give this one a B-.  Fairly disappointing for an OMG level wine, but I think this was all about the 2011 vintage, which was a tough one in Napa.  I was initially afraid of opening too young, but this one doesn't have anything left in it to age.  Great winery, but there is only so much that can be done in a problematic vintage.  On the bright side - the broccoli tots  (brots?) were excellent! Cheers!
